Question Mark: Director’s Statement: Barack Obama has become our 44th President of the United States of America. He is also the 1st African American President this country has ever elected. Change has come to America. The question however is, has change come in theory or in reality. “Yes We Can!” and “Now I Can!” have become the rallying cry of mainly minority Americans. If the everyday African American does not decide that change must come within oneself first, then after the Obama administration we risk having the same problems socially, mentally, and economically in our middle class communities and/or ghettos. Will we step up to the plate and fulfill our destiny? -Jordan Crafton Synopsis: Question Mark is a short film movie series that features the Barack Obama Inauguration documentary, a short film featuring JDC Film‘s Shimie Cayemitte of Project Logic, and a documentary about HIV/AIDS. The documentary is a story about three college students. Follow Jordan Crafton, of the University of South Carolina, Peggens Altidor, of Howard University, and Nigel Inniss, of Nassau Community College as they walk from the campus of Howard University to the National Mall in downtown Washington DC on January 20, 2009 to witness the historical presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. This story is unique because it is an average persons’ account of what actually happened on that day. Preceding the inauguration, see several opinions expressed by students on the campus of the University of South Carolina on November 5, 2008. If you were unable to attend this event, this story gives you an opportunity to witness the unity and celebration of change shown from a first person account. The length of this story is 11 minutes. The short film is a story about a teenage suicide. Teenagers deal with so much that goes unknown. Part III features a short documentary that discusses the misconceptions and stereotypes that are associated with HIV/AIDS. This epidemic is an ongoing problem for everybody and should be a concern. 4th and Life 2 Go: Director’s StatementRoosevelt High School is the first school that has ever been taken over by the state in New York. When taken over in 2002, nothing changed. Roosevelt still faces a $12-million budget deficit, which causes severe budget cuts to higher education like Advanced Placement courses, and other extracurricular activities. The high school struggles so much that every year is a question mark for next year. There athletes are made aware at the end of each season that this may be there last chance, because the school may not be able to afford their program anymore. This can be rather discouraging for these football players because of their scholarship worthy talent. Although, the newspaper continues to put Roosevelt down saying, “they are only good at football; poor black kids can’t simply graduate,” these kids still try hard to make it out of their unfortunate situation. Here in Roosevelt we defense our way through these struggles. |
